Thelma L. VanDemark, 94, of Kingston, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at home urrounded by her loving family.

She was born on May 5, 1924, in Kingston, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Albert and Irene Jones. Thelma was the wife of the late James Van Demark, Sr., he died in 1976.

Thelma worked for NY State Mental Health, Kingston, additional­ly she worked at the Kingston High School in the cafeteria, at the George Washington School as a “grandmothe­r” and also for Head Start Program at Stuyvesant Charter.

Thelma was a faithful member of the New Central Baptist Church, serving as a mother, sang in the choir, and served as a chairwoman of the trustee board.

She enjoyed being active and keeping on the go. Thelma helped many people in her family and community and was a home care provider for the Taconic DDSO for many years. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and give of herself. Many lives were touched by her acts of kindness.

She is survived by her loving family; a son, Donald VanDemark and his wife Audrey; a sister, Maxine Lewis; a stepdaught­er, Shawanda Rivera; and a host of grandchild­ren, greatgrand­children, nieces, and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her sons, Thomas VanDemark, and James VanDemark, Jr.

The Going Home Service will be at the New Central Baptist Church on Friday at 12 noon. The family will receive their friends from 10 to 12 noon. Burial will take place at Montrepose Cemetery.
