Joan M. Gardner, 88, of Clermont St., died on Thursday, July 26, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Ten Broeck Commons in Lake Katrine.

Born May 13, 1930, in Saugerties; she was the daughter of the late Harold (Merce) and Florence Gilmore Farrell.

Joan was devoted to her husband Don and to their family. She enjoyed life in the house Don built for them to raise their children. They would sit for hours talking and singing and sharing stories and their love. Best times were when the family was all together. Joan was secretary of her senior class and a cheerleade­r at Saugerties High School. Prior to raising her children, she worked as a secretary for the County of Ulster welfare department. Later in life she worked for Saugerties Central Schools as a Teacher Aide in Mt. Marion School and then retired. She was a member of Girls Community Club, NYSUT and RPEA, and was a member of St. Mary of the Snow and St. Joseph’s catholic church in Saugerties.

Joan was the wife of the late Donald T. Gardner, whom she married on Oct. 16, 1949, and enjoyed 61 years of marriage.

Surviving are five daughters and one son: Gail (Mahlon Pfeil), Debra (Patrick) Glynn Jr., Donna (Matthew) DePoala, Jill (Alfred) Roy, Joan (Ronald) Doyne, Barry (Carolyn) Gardner; grandchild­ren: Jackie W. Peeler Jr., Salvatore DePoala, Joseph DePoala, Theresa Allers, Aaron DePoala, Philip DePoala, Jennifer Bryant, Christophe­r Vicevich, Kaitlin Glynn, Ryan Della Bianca, Adam Della Bianca, Nicholas Doyne, Noah Doyne, Brenton Gardner, Emily Gardner; ten greatgrand­children; several stepgrandc­hildren and stepgreat-grandchild­ren, many nieces and nephews, as well as a brother James (Mary) Farrell also survive.

She was predecease­d by a brother, John Farrell, and his wife Marge.

Her Funeral Procession will form 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc. Corner of John and Lafayette Sts. Thence to St. Mary of the Snow where at 10:00 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Saugerties. Friends will be received Sunday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
