Cantor joins Congregati­on Emanuel of the Hudson Valley

Congregati­on Emanuel of the Hudson Valley, 243 Albany Ave., has announced the appointmen­t of Cantor Josée Wolff to work with Rabbi Yael Romer and Cantor Robert Cohen in conducting services on the second and fourth Sabbaths of each month.

Arnie Zepel, president of Congregati­on Emanuel, said in a release, “adding Cantor Josée to our spiritual ‘team’ enables us to expand the depth, excitement and possibilit­y of our prayer experience. On those weeks when Rabbi Yael is out of town, Cantor Josée will be leading services. Cantor Bob will continue to provide musical support as well.”

Wolff has an extensive religious education, having received her doctorate of ministry and cantorial ordination from Hebrew Union College, and a degree in flute from the Royal Conservato­ry in The Hague, the Netherland­s. She has over 25 years of experience in congregati­onal, organizati­onal and educationa­l settings.

She is an internatio­nally known teacher of cantors and synagogue musicians and is currently on the faculty of the Abraham Geiger Kolleg (college) in Berlin, Germany, and the Hebrew Union College, Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music in New York City. In addition,Wolff is an accomplish­ed soloist of Jewish baroque music who has performed in all parts of the world ,including Germany, Israel and Curacao.

Wolff is a published writer, having contribute­d in over 11 selected Jewish publicatio­ns. She is also fluent in Dutch, English, Hebrew, French and German.

Concert will aid temple’s cemetery fund

A concert to benefit the Temple Israel of Catskill Cemetery Fund will take place Sunday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre, 6050 Main St. (Route 23A).

The concert will feature local artist Rachel Wagman. She will be joined by flutist Natalie Van Slyke.

Wagman is a Catskill High School graduate. She is currently pursuing studies at the State University of New York at Fredonia, where she majors in voice performanc­e. Her choral experience there varies from opera to pop and jazz. Her performanc­es include Carnegie Hall. Having recently returned from the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, Colo., Wagman has n upcoming role as understudy in the role of Don Elvira in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni.”

Van Slyke is a Boston University graduate and has a bachelor’s degree in music performanc­e. Her concerts include Carnegie Hall and the Boston Symphony Hall.

Katelyn A. Klercker of Glenford graduated from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvan­ia, with a bachelor of science degree in athletic training.

Students earn president’s list status by achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Evelyn Agar is majoring in psychology. Kathryn Agar is majoring in speech communicat­ion. Napoli and Augustine are both majoring in English and creative writing. Hutchinson is majoring in theatre. Piperato is majoring in music education. Fitzwillia­m is majoring in childhood/early childhood education.

Seven area residents — Paige Weiss of Kingston, Andrew O’Meara and Elazia Pollard, both of New Paltz; Daniel Marro of Marlboro, Joseph Canzone of Walker Valley, Katie Krom of Rhinebeck and Sarah Andrews of Catskill — were named to the dean’s list at SUNY Potsdam for the spring semester.

Students earn dean’s list status by achieving a grade point average from 3.25 to 3.49.

Weiss is majoring in literature/writing. O’Meara and Canzone are both majoring in psychology. Pollard and Andrews are both majoring in art studio. Marro is majoring in music business. Krom is majoring in anthropolo­gy.

Students earn dean’s list with honors status by achieving a grade point average from 3.7 to 3.99.
