‘PROJECT ON SCHEDULE’
Creation of natural gas regular station underway on Washington Ave. in city
KINGSTON, N.Y. » Contractors have begun installing Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp.’s new natural gas regulator station at the corner of Washington Avenue and Janet Street.
Denise Doring VanBuren, vice president of public relations for Central Hudson, said Monday that crews have made good progress despite recent rain.
“The weather last week was not very cooperative, but our contractors pushed through a lot of rain to keep the project on schedule,” VanBuren said in an email.
Of the work done so far, she wrote: “The majority of the station piping has been assembled — that is what you see from the street — along with other materials/equipment, including valves, pipe, excavators, etc. This week all equipment will be assembled and prepared to be placed in service.”
VanBuren said once pipe in-
stallation is complete, “the next phase is to erect permanent
fencing around the station.”
“Landscaping is expected to begin mid-August to September, dependent on availability and conditions best suitable for planting,” she
said.
The new regulator station, on what had been a vacant lot, will replace existing apparatus on nearby Emerson Street that was built in 1930. The new station will consist
of lines that come out of the ground and go through equipment designed to balance the pressure of natural gas running to about 5,100 customers in the area.
The general contractor for
the project is Shaun B. Kalba Enterprises.
During the review of the project, neighbors raised concerns about the safety of the new station, its impact on the community and
property values, and noise it could generate.
A separate, unrelated project to replace aging natural gas mains in the same area is expected to start in September, VanBuren said.
