Gordon ‘Ike’ Allen, 94, of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK » Gordon “Ike” Allen, 94, a lifelong resident of the Town of Rhinebeck, died Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

Born in Rhinecliff on Sept. 17, 1923; he was the son of Hattie Mae Dedrick and Oscar E. Allen. Mr. Allen was an avid outdoorsma­n and baseball fan. He was a founding member of the Neighbor’s Gun Club, serving as an officer for 33 years; and a member of the Dutchess County Baseball Old Timers Associatio­n and the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame. He played for the Rhinebeck Senators and the Schatz Federal team of the Poughkeeps­ie City Baseball League. In 1947 he was voted Most Valuable Player of the city league.

Mr. Allen served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 2nd and 8th Army’s headquarte­rs and the American division in the South Pacific and Japan as a Tech Sergeant. Upon his return he began his 34-year career with Schatz Federal Bearing, retiring as a production manager.

On April 14, 1954, he married Annan Murray.

In addition to his wife, his survivors include a son, Mark and his wife Beth of Rhinebeck; his daughter, Laure Hay and her husband Bruce of Ottsville, Pa.; two grandchild­ren, Monica and Corey Allen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by his brothers, Lyman and William.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2018, 4 to 7 p.m. at the DapsonChes­tney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral services and burial will be private.
