New Paltz Seahawks capture DUSO title

Zena Sundevils, Red Hook Sea Raiders 2nd, 3rd in annual championsh­ip meet

A pair of individual victories from Andie Psilopoulo­s in girls competitio­n and an individual win each from Trent Suchowieck­i and Rowan Santos for the boys lifted the New Paltz Seahawks to the team title at the recent Dutchess Ulster Swim Organizati­on championsh­ip meet.

New Paltz totaled 1,541.5 points to finish ahead of the Zena Sundevils (1,258.5) in the annual eight-team event. The Red Hook Sea Raiders were third with 1,036 points, followed by the Rosendale Rapids (843), Hyde Park Stingrays (766), Rhinebeck Manta Rays (394), Kerhonkson Barracudas (240) and Hurley Tiger Sharks (204).

Psilopoulo­s was the lone double winner for the Seahawks, capturing the 50yard breaststro­ke and 100 individual medley in the 12 & under category. Other New Paltz winners for the girls were Kate Suchowieck­i (10 & under 50 breaststro­ke), Brooke Vos (12 & Under 50 freestyle), Ashley Benkert (18 & Under 50 butterfly) and Abigail Santos (18 & Under 100 IM).

In boys competitio­n, Trent Suchowieck­i was first in the 8 & Under 25 breaststro­ke for the Seahawks and teamed

with Jayda Schenker, Isla D’Angelo and Bennett Sheeley to capture the 8 & Under Mixed 100 freestyle. Santos, meanwhile, was first in the 10 & Under 50 backstroke.

Mason Crowley, Vivienne Lamb and Grace Young, meanwhile, led runner-up Zena.

Crowley captured the 8 & under 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly for the Sundevils. His times in the freestyle (14.61 seconds) and backstroke (17.57) broke meet records.

Competing in girls 10 & under, Young was first in 50 freestyle, 25 butterfly and 100 IM. She also teamed with Eli Schachter, Liam Young and Chayse Delisio to capture the 10 & under Mixed 200 freestyle. Lamb, meanwhile, won the 8 & under 25 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly.

A quartet of Red Hook Sea Raiders won three individual events in boys, with Owen Daniels first in 10 & under 50 freestyle, 50 breaststro­ke and 100 IM; Edmund Wilson winning the 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 IM; Evan Liu first in 14 & under 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 IM; and Tom Graminski in 18 & under 100 freestyle, 100 breaststro­ke and 100 IM.

In addition, Daniels’ time of 38.15 in the 50 breaststro­ke set a DUSO record, while Graminski also teamed with Mackenzie Storrs, Catherine Graham and Kyle Staubi to claim the 18 & under Mixed 200 freestyle.

The other triple winner in the meet was Rhinebeck Manta Rays’ Brooke Pociask (girls 14 & under), who was first in 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 50 butterfly.

Zena’s Julia Young (10 & under 25 freestyle, 50 backstroke) and Red Hook’s Catherine Graham (18 & under 100 freestyle, 100 breaststro­ke) won two individual events each in girls competitio­n, while the Sea Raiders’ Staubi (18 & under 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke); Red Hook teammate Seamus Hally (14 & under 50 breaststro­ke, 100 IM); Hyde Park Stingrays’ Troy Speare (10 & under 25 freestyle, 25 butterfly); and Rosendale Rapids’ Jack Samko (12 & under 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly) were double winners in the boys meet.
