Stone House Day takes place Sept. 8
NEW PALTZ, N.Y. » On Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the National Historic Landmark District will host “Old New Paltz Stone House Day” to celebrate the 340th anniversary of the settling of New Paltz by 12 French Huguenots in 1678.

Seven stone houses will be open for public tours or viewing, two of which have been closed for many years. In many of these homes, visitors will encounter interpreters in period garb.
Performances and vendor demonstrations will take during the day. The 5th New York Regiment and the 1st Ulster County Militia will stage a Revolutionary War era encampment. It will include demonstrations of musket firing, candle making, blacksmithing and more.
