edy wouldn’t seem to be in the wheelhouse of Marino (2017’s “How to Be a Latin Lover”), who as an actor is a veteran of sketch-comedy series “The State” and edgier fare such as “Children’s Hospital.” You’d think he’d have brought even a dull sharpness to “Dog Days,” but there’s so little bite here. (Appropriately, he shows up in the film briefly as a cocky morning-TV personality, which does play to his strengths.)

With a stronger script and tighter direction, “Dog Days” might have provided something more than some cute tailwaggers and a couple of chuckles. While it does find a few heartwarming, if highly predictable moments at its climax, this one too often is a dog.
