YOUTH ON THE GO

-

Onteora High School students Sophia Roberts and Emily Peck were each awarded a $500 Community Service Scholarship from the Maya Gold Foundation.

They were awarded the scholarships based on their commitment to serving hospitalized youngsters in the community. Roberts and Peck will be working together on an initiative they co-created, the Independent Hospitalized Youth Reading Project. Both teens will be visiting children in local hospitals to read to them. At the end of each visit, the teens will be leaving the books with the youngsters they visit.

Peck and Roberts opted to use all of their scholarship funds to purchase the books. They will be providing periodic updates to the foundation on the progress of their work.

Teens can apply for the scholarships to support their community service efforts, provided their work is aligned to the foundation’s mission. Visit mayagoldfoundation.org to apply for the scholarships online or for more information.
