Faso, Delgado appearing at candidates forum
U.S. Rep. John Faso and challenger Antonio Delgado will appear at a candidates forum in Sullivan County.
Republican U.S. Rep. John Faso and Democratic challenger Antonio Delgado are slated to discuss environmental issues during a candidates forum Aug. 29 in Sullivan County.
The forum will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Western Hotel, 22 Upper Main St., Callicoon. The forum will focus on efforts at the federal, local and state levels to protect the Delaware River Watershed, according to an event announcement. Voters will have the opportunity to hear directly from the candidates in New York’s 19th Congressional District race about their position on environmental issues.
Tom Szymanski, a spokesman for Faso, said the event would not be a debate between the candidates. He said the congressman was invited to speak and “is looking forward to the opportunity.” He added that Faso is committed to ensuring all candidates on the ballot in November’s election have the opportunity to participate in events where they will be appearing together at the same time.
Earlier this month, Faso challenged his opponents in the congressional district race to “several debates” ahead of the Nov. 6 election.
Delgado said the forum provides an opportunity to discuss local environmental issues, including conservation efforts and the economy.
“I look forward to participating in public events like town halls and debates in order to answer questions from the people here in our district and provide transparency and accountability on issues like healthcare, ways to bring jobs back to our region, our economy and taxes, protecting our environment, and creating opportunities for education and skills training,” Delgado said.
Faso, R-Kinderhook, is seeking his second twoyear term representing the 19th Congressional District. He is being challenged by Delgado, a Rhinebeck resident, as well as Green Party candidate Steve Greenfield of New Paltz, and independents Dal LaMagna of Clinton and Diane Neal of Hurley.
The district comprises all of Ulster, Greene, Columbia, Sullivan, Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties; most of Dutchess County; parts of Rensselaer and Montgomery counties; and a small section of Broome County.
