Edwin Gerlack, 93, of Sherry Lane, Kingston, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at HealthAlli­ance Hospital, Broadway Campus. Born Oct. 23, 1924, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Rita Gerlack.

A graduate of Poughkeeps­ie High School, Ed served our country in the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diver in ordnance disposal during World War II. He worked for IBM, retiring after 41 years as a senior manager in 1988. A member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Profession­al Machine Alumni, Ed was parishione­r of St. Joseph’s Church, where he was as an usher since 1970; and previously served on the church council. Ed had also volunteere­d at People’s Place since 1988.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joan (Beck) Gerlack; his sons, Edwin Gerlack, Brian Gerlack and his wife Linda; daughter, Mary McHugh (Bruce Stalnaker); many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was predecease­d by his siblings, Walter Watts; twin brother, Lawrence Gerlack; and sister, Helen Gerlack.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh. com). Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral procession will form Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
