Edwin Gerlack, 93, of Kingston
Edwin Gerlack, 93, of Sherry Lane, Kingston, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2018, at HealthAlliance Hospital, Broadway Campus. Born Oct. 23, 1924, in Kingston, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary Rita Gerlack.
A graduate of Poughkeepsie High School, Ed served our country in the U.S. Navy as a deep sea diver in ordnance disposal during World War II. He worked for IBM, retiring after 41 years as a senior manager in 1988. A member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the Professional Machine Alumni, Ed was parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, where he was as an usher since 1970; and previously served on the church council. Ed had also volunteered at People’s Place since 1988.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Joan (Beck) Gerlack; his sons, Edwin Gerlack, Brian Gerlack and his wife Linda; daughter, Mary McHugh (Bruce Stalnaker); many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Walter Watts; twin brother, Lawrence Gerlack; and sister, Helen Gerlack.
Funeral arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh. com). Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral procession will form Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
