David Thomas, of Braziel Heights Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at his residence after a lengthy battle with amyotrophi­c lateral sclerosis.

He was born Oct. 31, 1954, son of the late JT “Pop” and Florence Larned Thomas. A lifetime area resident, Dave had at one time worked for Rotron; however, he was primarily a Catskill Mountain logger. He had worked for Art Umhey, John Ingram, Art Ford, and Frank Parslow. He formerly was a member of the Phoenicia Fish & Game, and a life member of the Hunt Club of North America. He had an appreciati­on for nature, and was a skilled hunter and fisherman. At one point, he was the youngest New York state licensed taxidermis­t. He was active with the black powder shoots, and had participat­ed in the Primitive Biathlons. He was very proud of his buckskin outfit.

Surviving are his daughter, Holly Lynn Frano and her husband Shannon of Shandaken; two brothers, George (Sherry) Thomas of Shokan and Glenn (Amy) of Frankfort, Ky.; and a granddaugh­ter, Ava Thomas. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Dave will be Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at E.B.
