DETAILS: Feminist Donna Goodman will read from her new book, “Women Fight Back: The Centuries-Long Struggle for Liberation.” The book presents an overview of the U.S. movement for women’s rights and liberation, from 1800 to the election of Donald Trump. Admission is free.

Cole, Church focus of program in Saugerties

WHAT: Friends of Historic Saugerties event WHEN: Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. WHERE: Community Room of Saugerties Public Library,

91 Washington Ave., Saugerties.

DETAILS: Friends of Historic Saugerties will present a talk titled “Hudson River Linkage and Legacy — In Two Chapters: Thomas Cole National Historic Site and Olana.” Valerie Balint will discuss the ties between iconic artists Thomas Cole and Frederick Church, and the houses they lived in on opposite sides of the Hudson River. She will introduce the historic relationsh­ip between these artists and the developmen­t of the Hudson River School, while also explaining how these two sites were preserved and ultimately opened as public museums. Balint was a curator and later interim director of collection­s and research for The Olana Partnershi­p. The event is open to anyone interested in history. Seating is limited to 81.
