Gerard Sanzi, 67, of Vero Beach, Florida, a longtime resident of Shokan, N.Y., died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, in Florida.

He was born Aug. 2, 1951, in Queens, the son of the late Robert Sanzi and Catherine Duda. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech in Queens, N.Y. In his 30-year postal career, Gerard was a supervisor and also president of the National Associatio­n of Postal Supervisor­s. He was highly respected as a supervisor and able to assist many employees to succeed in their careers. He had a love for animals and enjoyed fishing. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and was a classic car enthusiast. Gerard was an excellent cook who loved to welcome his family and friends to his table. His talents included playing the guitar, and he is fondly remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving husband and father. He and his wife, Mary, made their home in Shokan for many years. He had a strong personal faith and was a devout Catholic. He continued to strengthen his faith in Jesus through Bible studies in Florida.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kenny Sanzi; their three daughters, Elizabeth Chiavelli of Hudson, Alison Sanzi of Red Hook, and Caitlin Sanzi of Catskill; a son-in-law, Gerard Chiavelli; two grandchild­ren, Jerry and Gianna; his niece and nephew, Hope and Stefan; and his best friend, David Heintz, who was like a brother to Gerard. He was predecease­d by his brother, Robert, in 1991.

His funeral procession will form at E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, 87 Main St., Phoenicia, N.Y. The mourners will walk to St. Francis de Sales Church, where at 10 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. He will be buried in the family plot at the St. Francis de Sales Cemetery, Route 28, Allaben, N.Y. Friends will be received on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at E.B. Gormley Funeral Home.
