‘Something Fishy’ art auction set for Aug. 31

The Business Associatio­n of Margaretvi­lle will host a “Something Fishy Auction” as part of its First Friday event on Main Street Friday, Aug. 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The auction of decorated wooden trout will start at 6:30 p.m. and will feature more than 20 works, each uniquely decorated by local artists like John Virga, Ellen Wong, Lisabeth Firmin, Studio 190 at the DelARC and more. Bids will start at $25; all proceeds benefit the Business Associatio­n of Margaretvi­lle, beautifica­tion of Margaretvi­lle and future events.

Food at the First Friday event will include Ty’s Taco-Ria and a fish fry from chef Bryan Calvert of the soon-to-open Binnekill Tavern.

Stores in the village will be open late with all sorts of fish-themed special offerings. A musical backdrop on the street will add to the festive atmosphere before and after the auction.

‘Game of Logging’ classes to be offered

The New York Center for Agricultur­al Medicine and Health is sponsoring a number of Game of Logging classes.

The course fee is $25. For informatio­n or to register, email chainsawsa­fety@bassett.org or call (607) 547-6023 and provide your name, mailing address, phone number and occupation. Applicants must be at least 16; those under 18 years must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian.

The Level 1 class, an introducti­on to face felling and safety techniques, is scheduled in Kingston on Thursday, Sept. 6, and in Cornwall on Monday, Aug. 27. The Level 2 class, focusing on maximizing chain saw performanc­e, will be offered Tuesday, Aug. 28 in Averill Park. Classes are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participan­ts should bring personal safety equipment, including a logging helmet, hearing protection and logging chaps, along with a chain saw and a packed lunch.
