Johanna C. Hoose, 78, of the Birches and formerly of Malden-on-Hudson, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home. Born March 2, 1940, in Malden, she was the daughter of the late William and Elmira Hoose. A lifetime area resident, she was a graduate of Saugerties High School, Class of 1957. Active in St. John’s Methodist Church in Malden, she was the church organist since 1954, having taught herself the musical skills required in being head of the music ministry. Over the years, she also played the organ for services at the Quarryvill­e and Centervill­e Methodist Churches. She was the church treasurer at St. John’s and had served as president of the Women’s Society. She represente­d the Church at the Saugerties Area Council of Churches. In her spare time, she loved arts and crafts.

Survivors include her nieces, Wendy Bell and Cindy Williams; a nephew, Charles Williams Jr.; and several greatniece­s and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her sister, Shirley Williams; a niece, Brenda Martini; and a grandniece, Krystal Bell.

Her funeral procession will form at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets. Thence to the Quarryvill­e Methodist Church, where at 10 a.m., her funeral service will be conducted. Burial will follow in the Katsbaan Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
