Ulster County End of Summer Picnic on Sept. 6
The Ulster County Office for the Aging invites the county’s seniors to the 2018 End of Summer Picnic.
The picnic will take place Thursday, Sept. 6, from noon to 2 p.m. at Cluett Schantz Memorial Park, 1801 Route 9W.
RSVPs are required and can be made by calling the Office for the Aging at (845) 340-3456.
The Senior Compute Learning Center, 94 Mary’s Ave., is offering the following classes and workshops:
• Friday, Aug. 31, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (fiveweek class), Introduction to Computers. The cost is $60.
• Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Introduction to Windows 10 workshop. The cost is $30.
• Wednesday, Sept. 6, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (four-week basics), Excel Basics. The cost is $50.
• Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. (fourweek class), Digital Photography. The cost is $50.
• Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Windows 10 Task Manager workshop. The cost is $30.

Senior groups list meeting schedules
The Town of Esopus Seniors will leave for their trip to the Westchester Theater on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 8:15 a.. in the parking lot of the Esopus Town Hall Community Center, 284 Broadway.
The group will not meet on Monday, Sept. 3, which is Labor Day.
There will be a picnic for group members on Monday, Sept. 17, at noon at George Freer Memorial Beach Park on Canal Street. An RSVP is required by Monday, Sept. 10.

The Southern Tier Seniors will have their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Monumental Lodge, 7 North Road.
Social time will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a business meeting at noon.

Congregation Emanuel schedules services for High Holy Days
Congregation Emanuel of the Hudson Valley, 243 Albany Ave., will observe the beginning of Rosh Hashanah on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m.
Rabbi Yael Romer will be officiating, with Cantor Robert Cohen providing musical accompaniment. Romer’s sermon will be “When Officiating at a Jewish Wedding Became a Crime.”
Rosh Hashanah services will resume the following morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, with Romer delivering a sermon titled, “Shut Those Women Up.” The synagogue will have children’s services led by Religious School Director Samara Gilman from 10 to 11 am.
Following morning services, at 1 p.m., there will be an opportunity to bring questions, listen and learn for “Dialogue with the Rabbi.”
Yom Kippur, or the Day of Atonement, will commence on Tuesday, Sept. 18, with the Kol Nidre service at 7 p.m. Romer will speak on “Being A Good Steward and Living in Balance with the Earth.”
Services will resume the following morning, Wednesday, Sept. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A children’s service will take place from 10 to 11 am. Following morning services at 1 p.m. Romer will offer a guided meditation and a dialogue, which will allow for intellectual exploration on various topics.
The afternoon services will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by the Memorial “Yiskor” Services at 4:30 p.m. and the concluding Neilah Service at 5:30 p.m.

Temple Israel of Catskill will mark anniversary
Temple Israel
of Catskill, a Reform Jewish Congregation serving Columbia, Greene and Berkshire counties, will celebrate its 95th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 7, beginning at noon with a Fall Fest Luncheon.
A flower arranging demonstration, with audience participation, will start at 1:15 p.m., during the luncheon. It will feature congregant Dennis Anderson, a former floral designer from Charlottesville, Virginia, and a retired curator of the Governor’s Mansion in Albany.
Admission to the luncheon and flower arranging is $20 per person and includes sandwiches, fruit and homemade goodies. All proceeds will benefit Temple Israel of Catskill.
