Martin Brodeur is leaving the St. Louis Blues after spending the past three years as assistant general manager.

The team says Brodeur is departing to pursue other opportunities. Brodeur ended his goaltending career with the Blues, joined the front office as assistant to the GM in January 2015 and was promoted a few months later.

Brodeur has worked in management with Hockey Canada in recent years. The NHL’s alltime leader in goaltending wins has connections to two Eastern Conference teams: the New Jersey Devils, where he won three Stanley Cup championships, and the New York Islanders, who have longtime Devils GM Lou Lamoriello in charge of hockey operations.

New York ranks third in the country for the total number of student-athletes participating in high school athletics.

That’s according to figures from the National Federation of High School Athletic Associations, which place the Empire State behind only Texas and California.

According to a survey by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, over a half million student-athletes from 787 schools participated in interscholastic athletics during the 2017-2018 school year. Of the 562,207 student-athletes who participated, the breakdown between sexes was nearly even, with 53.6 percent boys and 46.4 percent girls.

The 14 boys and three coaches who delivered Hawaii its first Little League World Series title in a decade received a hero’s welcome on their return home.

The team was showered in lei, handed food and greeted by a roaring crowd upon their exit from the Honolulu airport Monday.

The team shook hands with Gov. David Ige, Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell, Kauai Mayor Bernard Carvalho and other city officials. The Royal Hawaiian Band played for them as they entered a news conference.

“After the entire state was on edge with the close passage of Hurricane Lane, this team helped us celebrate something positive as we watched their prowess on the baseball diamond which resulted in the first shutout championship game since 2002,” Caldwell said.
