Monica Beverly Peplow (née Levine) of Kerhonkson, N.Y., died peacefully at home on Aug. 28, 2018. She was 71 years old.

Born in London, England, Monica came to America with her family in 1952 and first settled in Brooklyn before relocating to Ellenville. She graduated from Ellenville High School in 1964, attended NYU, and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY New Paltz. She spent the majority of her career as an educator at Eastern New York Correction­al Facility, where she taught her pupils “the Three Rs” as well as some choice Yiddish phrases and the importance of rooting for the New York Mets. Her family was her life’s joy, and she will be deeply missed.

Monica was the daughter of the late Zena and Gerald “Jerry” Levine, and was predecease­d by her brother, Scott.

She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of nearly 36 years, Mark Peplow; her children, Stacy Rachels and Noah (Amy) Rachels; brother, Harvey (Arlene) Levine; sister, Elissa (José) Levine; and her many nephews and nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces, and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson, N.Y. 12446. Burial will immediatel­y follow at Kerhonkson Synagogue Cemetery, Boice Mill Road, Kerhonkson, N.Y. The family will be receiving friends at the Peplow Family home in Kerhonkson on Friday (8/31), Saturday (9/1), and Sunday (9/2), between noon and 4 p.m.
