Roosevelt, Red Hook chalk up victories

Freshman Gianna Felipe, in her first varsity match, had 18 points, nine aces, seven kills and 17 digs to power Roosevelt High past New Paltz, 25-20, 15-25, 25-16, 2517 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League volleyball match on Thursday

Shannon Martin Ignaffo added 16 points, six aces, seven kills, two blocks and seven digs; Elizabeth Miller contribute­d eight kills and 17 digs and Aaliyah Williams added five kills and two blocks to lead the Presidents.

“I am proud of this almost entirely new varsity team coming together and formulatin­g this big division and league win,” Roosevelt coach Kristi Coughlin said. “Losing seven seniors was a very big loss from last year and many of these girls were moved up and haven’t played together.

“They have great team chemistry and are working hard at practice everyday to get them to be a successful varsity level team.”

Ella Skye Franks (three aces, 15 assists, six kills), Mena Bonagura (two aces, 13 digs, four kills), Jordan Giancola (16 digs, nine kills) and Lauren Thompson (10 digs) paced the Huguenots. Red Hook 3, Saugerties 0

At Saugerties, the Raiders swept the Sawyers, 2523, 25-20, 25-22.

Maddie Boucher (three aces, 10 kills, three assists), Alyssa Levine (three aces, eight kills), and Irene Gelaga (six aces, six kills, three digs) led Red Hook.

Kailey Collins (six kills, three aces, nine digs, four blocks), Livvy Scott (11 assists) and Hillary Mulford (three kills, one ace, three blocks, five digs) carried Saugerties. Rondout 3, Marlboro 1

At Marlboro, after dropping the opening set 25-23, the Ganders came back to win, besting the Dukes 2518, 25-19, 25-21.
