Ronald Bernard Deak Sr., 85, of Saugerties

SAUGERTIES » Ronald Bernard Deak Sr. died peacefully at home, while surrounded by his family, on Monday, Aug. 27, 2018. He was 85 years old.

Born July 10, 1933, in Brooklyn, he was the son of Bernard and Gisella (Rochnyak) Deak, and grew up in Queens.

On Oct. 17, 1953, he married Elizabeth Seissler, with whom he raised a family, and together they became proprietors of Wallpaper World in Lake Katrine. As a young man, he joined the National Guard, and enjoyed teaching middle school before becoming a business owner for over 30 years.

Ron was a devout Roman Catholic, an avid reader, a musician, and a tennis enthusiast. He enjoyed seeing live musical theater, and had performed in several local theater performances during his retirement in Florida. He also volunteered for the organization Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and mentored a child for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Suzanne and her husband Ludwig Wittig, Ronald and his wife Leeann Deak, Dianne and her husband Thomas Hunt, Betsy and her husband Raymond Lastner, and James and his wife, Kristen Deak. He is also survived by six grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Friday, Sept. 7, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Buono Funeral Service Inc., 100 Main St., Saugerties, N.Y. A funeral procession will form at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Buono Funeral Service, and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow, located at the corner of Post and Cedar streets, Saugerties, where at 10 a.m., a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
