Student charged with school threat
An 18-year-old Onteora High School student has been arrested and charged in connection with allegedly threatening to “shoot ... up” the school, Saugerties police said.
Alexander Scott McLain, of 18 Livingston St., Saugerties, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 1, and charged with making a terroristic threat, a felony, police announced late Sunday.
An order of protection was issued directing McLain to remain away from the Onteora Central School District.
Police said the Saugerties Central School District filed a complaint on Friday that a posting on Facebook stated “I wanna just go to the gd school and shoot it up rn I don’t give a f**k if I got to jail”.
Through investigation, Saugerties police identified the author of the post as McLain, a registered 10thgrade student of the Onteora Central School District.
McLain was located and interviewed, allegedly admitting having made the post and others, saying he was directing his anger toward Onteora High School because of a recent communication he had received.
Police said investigation disclosed that McLain did not own any firearms.
After his arrest, McLain was arraigned and taken to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash $75,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to village of Saugerties Justice Court on Thursday, Sept. 6.
