Elizabeth J. Deak, 86, of Saugerties

Elizabeth J. Deak died peacefully at home on Sept. 2, 2018. She was 86 years old.

Liz was born on Aug. 29, 1932, to Henry and Barbara “Betty” Seissler (Krines) and grew up in Queens. She married Ronald B. Deak on Oct. 17, 1953. She was a sixth grade teacher and a Realtor before successful­ly running a business for over 30 years, which most recently was named Wallpaper World, all while lovingly raising a family.

As the most caring and patient of people, she was a devout Roman Catholic, was an incredible cook, an avid tennis player, a talented decorator, and a whiz at playing Bridge. In retirement, she volunteere­d at her local hospital in different ways, and also manned a help line for pregnant teens in crisis.

Liz is predecease­d by her husband who passed just six days before her. She is survived by five children, Suzanne and her husband Ludwig Wittig, Ronald, Jr., and his wife Leeann Deak, Dianne and her husband Thomas Hunt, Betsy and her husband Raymond Lastner, and James and his wife, Kristen Deak. She is also survived by six grandchild­ren, seven great-grandchild­ren, and many nieces and nephews. A combined funeral for Liz and Ron Deak is planned. Friends may call Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, from 3 until 5 p.m. and 7 until 9 p.m. at Buono Funeral Service, Inc., 100 Main Street, Saugerties, N.Y. A funeral procession will form at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Buono Funeral Service, and then proceed to St. Mary of the Snow, located at 36 Cedar Street, Saugerties, where a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow immediatel­y at the St. Mary of the Snow Cemetery, Route 9W in Barclay Heights, Saugerties.
