Events will mark anniversary of attacks
Communities across the region on Monday and Tuesday will commemorate the 17th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, including the following events:
Ulster County Kingston
• The Kingston Fire Department will host a ceremony starting at 8:30 a.m. in Firemen’s Park at the intersection of Washington and Hurley avenues. Several area fire departments will participate. After the ceremony, at about 9 a.m., there will be a breakfast open to the public at the Wiltwyck Fire Station on Frog Alley, which is within walking distance from the park.
A lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on the maritime community response on Sept. 11. The lecture is called “American Dunkirk: The Waterborne Evacuation of Manhattan on 9/11,” with authors James Kendra and Tricia Wachtendorf. A book signing will follow. A donation of $5 is suggested. Pre-registration is recommended.
• A full worship service, “9/11 Remembrance and Healing” will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. James United Methodist Church, 35 Pearl St., Kingston. The Rev. Bob Milson, pastor of the church, will lead the service, which will end with a candlelight hymn.
Stone Ridge
• SUNY Ulster will honor those lost and pay tribute to all the people who serve the community and country at an annual remembrance ceremony at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 10. The ceremony will take place at the steps of the Macdonald DeWitt Library of the campus, 491 Cottekill Road, Stone Ridge. There will be a performance by SUNY Ulster Music Department students and John McGovern, a bagpiper from the Ulster Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. There will also be several special guest speakers, including the Rev. Alison Quin, rector of Christ the King Episcopal Church; SUNY Ulster Vice President Kevin Stoner and Dr. Ray Raymond. There will be a reception afterward.

Saugerties
• A “9/11 Salute To Uniformed Public Service” will take place from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cantine Veterans Memorial Complex.
Town of Ulster
• A memorial service and wreath laying will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Robert Post Park, off Ulster Landing Road. The guest speaker will be Ulster County Sheriff Paul VanBlarcum. There will be performances by singers Bobby Stillwell and Dorraine Whitney.
Dutchess County Hyde Park
• A candlelight service will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Paul Tegtmeier Memorial Site in Hackett Hill Park. Free candles will be provided starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be guest speakers. Tegtmeier was a Hyde Park resident and New York City firefighter who died at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
