Tanker rig rolls, spilling 30,000 pounds of milk

A Poughkeeps­ie man was injured when the tanker he was driving overturned, spilling 30,000 pound of milk.

A Poughkeeps­ie man was injured when the 18-wheel milk tanker he was driving on state Route 82 ran off the road, overturned and rolled over twice before coming to rest on its side, deputies said.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said all 30,000 pounds of milk being carried in the tanker were spilled onto the ground following the incident 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2018.

The driver, Ronnie Hare, 36, of Poughkeeps­ie, who was alone in the vehicle at the time, suffered neck, chest and abdomen injuries and had to be removed from the vehicle before being airlifted to Albany Medical Center, deputies stated.

Route 82 was closed into the evening hours.
