New Paltz shuts out Saugerties

A strong first-half helped lift New Paltz High to a 3-0 victory over Saugerties in a MidHudson Athletic League girls soccer match on Friday.

“New Paltz played a strong first half with Fiona O’Hara and Caroline Giuliani getting behind the Saugerties defense on the wings,” Huguenots coach Keith Walker said.

Abbie Lemek’s unassisted goal in the 6th minute got the Huguenots on the board and Anna McDuffie connected on a Fiona O’Hara assist in the 25th minute to give New Paltz a 2-0 lead it held until the half.

McDuffie connected of O’Hara again in the 47th minute to round the scoring.

“The New Paltz defense, led by Abbie Lemek and Taylor Bruck played quite well in stifling the Saugerties offense,” Walker said.

The Sawyers (0-2 overall, 0-2 MHAL) held a 1411 edge in shots on goal, but the Huguenots (3-2, 2-1) led 4-2 in the corners.

Vivian Key recorded 10 stops for New Paltz, while Grace and Anna VanRoy combined for eight for Saugerties. Red Hook 5, Rondout 1

At Red Hook, the Raiders won their home opener after opening the season with four straight road victories.

“Rondout started the game with a lot of energy, but we did a nice job of assuming control early on (five goals in the first 20 minutes) Red Hook coach Jason Pavlich said.

Grace Hennig, connected with Phoebe Gilbert in the 4th minute; A.J. Fuchs-White scored off a Cassandra LaBarbera feed in the 6th minute; and LaBarbera scored on a penalty kick in the 7th minute for a 3-0 lead.

LaBarbera pushed Red Hook’s lead to 4-0 in the 18th minute and Samantha Riley put a Casey Shein feed in between the posts in the 20th minute to extend the Raiders lead to 5-0.

Red Hook (5-0, 4-0) kept Rondout off the board until the 78th minute when Kendra Rubino deposited a free kick into the net for the (1-2, 1-2) Ganders’ lone goal.

The Raiders held a 14-3 edge in shots on goal and a 5-0 advantage in corners.

Amber Serrano recorded on stop for the Raiders while Makayla Ryan had four for the Ganders. Millbrook 4, Pine Plains 0

At Millbrook, the (2-1-1) Blazers shut out the Bombers.

Rebeca Quick scored a goal and had two assists, while Maddie Harkenride­r, Arianna Radovic and Sabrina Mongon each scored a goal to lead a Millbrook attack that out shot Pine Plains 19-1. Wallkill 4, Roosevelt 1

At Wallkill, the Panthers rolled to victory over the Presidents.

Kayla Miller, Janna Marie Daniels, Rosemarie Miller and Cassandra Sozio each scored a goal for Wallkill.

Abby Thomas scored Roosevelt’s loan goal on a penalty kick.

Alana Cathcart registered 15 stops for the Presidents.
