New Paltz shuts out Saugerties

A strong first-half helped lift New Paltz High to a 3-0 vic­tory over Saugerties in a MidHud­son Ath­letic League girls soc­cer match on Fri­day.

“New Paltz played a strong first half with Fiona O’Hara and Caro­line Gi­u­liani get­ting be­hind the Saugerties de­fense on the wings,” Huguenots coach Keith Walker said.

Ab­bie Le­mek’s unas­sisted goal in the 6th minute got the Huguenots on the board and Anna McDuffie con­nected on a Fiona O’Hara as­sist in the 25th minute to give New Paltz a 2-0 lead it held un­til the half.

McDuffie con­nected of O’Hara again in the 47th minute to round the scor­ing.

“The New Paltz de­fense, led by Ab­bie Le­mek and Tay­lor Bruck played quite well in sti­fling the Saugerties of­fense,” Walker said.

The Sawyers (0-2 over­all, 0-2 MHAL) held a 1411 edge in shots on goal, but the Huguenots (3-2, 2-1) led 4-2 in the cor­ners.

Vi­vian Key recorded 10 stops for New Paltz, while Grace and Anna VanRoy com­bined for eight for Saugerties. Red Hook 5, Ron­d­out 1

At Red Hook, the Raiders won their home opener af­ter open­ing the sea­son with four straight road vic­to­ries.

“Ron­d­out started the game with a lot of en­ergy, but we did a nice job of as­sum­ing con­trol early on (five goals in the first 20 min­utes) Red Hook coach Ja­son Pavlich said.

Grace Hen­nig, con­nected with Phoebe Gilbert in the 4th minute; A.J. Fuchs-White scored off a Cas­san­dra LaBar­bera feed in the 6th minute; and LaBar­bera scored on a penalty kick in the 7th minute for a 3-0 lead.

LaBar­bera pushed Red Hook’s lead to 4-0 in the 18th minute and Sa­man­tha Ri­ley put a Casey Shein feed in be­tween the posts in the 20th minute to ex­tend the Raiders lead to 5-0.

Red Hook (5-0, 4-0) kept Ron­d­out off the board un­til the 78th minute when Ken­dra Ru­bino de­posited a free kick into the net for the (1-2, 1-2) Gan­ders’ lone goal.

The Raiders held a 14-3 edge in shots on goal and a 5-0 ad­van­tage in cor­ners.

Am­ber Ser­rano recorded on stop for the Raiders while Makayla Ryan had four for the Gan­ders. Mill­brook 4, Pine Plains 0

At Mill­brook, the (2-1-1) Blaz­ers shut out the Bombers.

Re­beca Quick scored a goal and had two as­sists, while Maddie Harken­rider, Ari­anna Radovic and Sab­rina Mon­gon each scored a goal to lead a Mill­brook at­tack that out shot Pine Plains 19-1. Wal­lkill 4, Roo­sevelt 1

At Wal­lkill, the Panthers rolled to vic­tory over the Pres­i­dents.

Kayla Miller, Janna Marie Daniels, Rose­marie Miller and Cas­san­dra Sozio each scored a goal for Wal­lkill.

Abby Thomas scored Roo­sevelt’s loan goal on a penalty kick.

Alana Cathcart reg­is­tered 15 stops for the Pres­i­dents.
