KISSIMMEE, FLA. » Joaquin Victorino Batista Luna (known affectiona­tely as Quirino) entered into eternal rest on Sept. 20, 2018 in Kissimmee, Fla., after complicati­ons from a severe stroke. He was 80 years old.

Born in the Dominican Republic in 1938, he was the son of the late Candido and Antonia Batista. Shortly after arriving in the U.S., he met his wife Maria A. Diaz and were married in Queens, N.Y., in 1962. They shared 40 years of marriage together.

Joaquin and Maria raised six children in the New York City boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn before moving to the Hudson Valley area of upstate New York in 1979 where they were blessed with their last child. There he spent most of his career working at Johnson Ford Automotive in their sales department.

In 2004, after losing his wife a year earlier to lymphoma, he fulfilled their dreams and retired to Kissimmee, Fla. There he created a new life for himself and became a devoted parishione­r of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, spending most of his time serving his parish and the Knights of Columbus.

He was a loving father to Joaquin Batista, Jr. and his wife Ky Lynne, Anthony Batista and his wife Diane, Rodney Batista and his wife Joanne, Michael Batista, Victor Batista and his wife Gloria, Judy Bender and her husband Anthony, and Elisabet Leone and her husband Mark. He is also survived by 13 grandchild­ren:

Amanda, Samantha, Daniel, Victoria, Jonathan, Alexandra, Mariana, Gabriel, Abigail, Philip, Matthew, Noah, and Mia.

Visitation hours will be from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Lasher Funeral Home, Woodstock, N.Y. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Ashokan Rural Cemetery in Shokan, N.Y., immediatel­y following.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor can be sent to St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 2750 E Osceola Pkwy, Kissimmee, Fla., 34743 for their Perpetual Adoration constructi­on fund.
