Marlboro faces Burke in Class B showdown
The 113th meeting between Kingston High and Newburgh Free Academy and a Class B showdown between Marlboro and John S. Burke Catholic top this weekend’s slate of area Section 9 football action.
The Tigers are Goldbacks clash in a Class AA contest 7 p.m. Friday at Dietz Stadium.
Marlboro (defending Class B champion) and Burke (201617 Class C winner which has moved up to B) meet 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Burke in what could be a preview of the Nov. 2 championship.
On Friday, New Paltz is home to Monticello in a Class A, Division II game at 5 p.m.; Saugerties is at Roosevelt in a 7 p.m. Class A contest, Highland entertains Rondout Valley in a Class B, Division I meeting at 7, and Ellenville heads to Millbrook for a 7 p.m. nonleague game.
Local action on Saturday has Wallkill at Goshen in a 1 p.m. Class A-II contest, and Onteora plays host to Liberty at 2 p.m. and Red Hook goes to Woodlands at 1:30 in nonleague matchups.
Newburgh at Kingston
Kingston (2-1 Class AA, 2-2 overall) comes off a very strong
outing against Valley Central and now face its (really) old nemesis in NFA.
Newburgh (2-0, 3-1) has won the last five meetings and leads the series 55-52 with five ties.
As high powered as Chapman Parker, Jackson Parker and Kingston’s offense has shown two of the last three weeks, this game falls on the shoulders of the Tigers’ linemen and a defense that must slow the Goldbacks down and make stops.
Marlboro at Burke
Both teams are 3-1 coming into this first meeting in two years. The Dukes routed Port Jervis 56-6 last week, while the Eagles blanked Ellenville 42-0.
The teams’ common opponent so far this year is New Paltz, which last 1310 to Burke and fell 21-13 to Marlboro.
Rondout at Highland
Highland (3-1), which was handed its first loss by Wallkill, takes on a (22) Rondout squad in a big divisional opener. Rondout hammered Monticello 46-6 to even its record.
Saugerties at Roosevelt
After holding off a tough New Paltz unit, the (2-2) Sawyers now take on an (0-4) Roosevelt that showed offensive life last week against Corning, but lost 45-28
Ellenville at Millbrook
A turning-point game for winless (0-4) Ellenville and Millbrook.
The Blue Devils have managed just 20 points all season and been outscored 90-0 in the last two games. The Blazers’ offense has been better, but their defense has allowed more than 45 points in every contest.
Wallkill at Goshen
The (1-1, 2-2) Panthers righted themselves with the big win over Highland. Goshen (2-0, 3-1) is looking to do just that itself after handed its first loss by Minisink Valley.
Liberty at Onteora
Onteora (0-4) scored its first two touchdowns of the year last week and now goes against a (1-3) Liberty that has lost three straight since beating Spackenkill by a point on opening day.
Red Hook at Woodlands
After losing its second straight, (2-2) Red Hook tries to regroup against Section 1’s Woodlands. The Falcons are 3-1 overall, including a season-opening 30-6 win over Ellenville.
