Faso says Kavanaugh should be confirmed
Rep. John Faso says he thinks Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook, says he thinks Judge Brett Kavanaugh should be confirmed as a Supreme Court justice.
In an radio interview with Fred Dicker in the Capital Region’s Talk 1300 station, Faso lays out his reasoning for supporting Kavanaugh despite accusations of sexual assault against him while he was in high school.
Faso offered that support on Friday before President Donald Trump and GOP Senate leaders allowed for the FBI to conduct a supplemental background investigation of Kavanaugh.
“I think Judge Kavanaugh should be confirmed based on upon his record, based on his writings on the bench, based upon the fact that ... besides this allegation when he was in high school, he has an absolutely sterling reputation,” Faso said.
Faso referred to an allegation made by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford that Kavanugh attempted to rape her 36 years ago.
“I believe he should be confirmed and I think that Dr. Ford’s allegations should have been taken seriously and that the country has taken them seriously,” Faso said.
“I found her to have credibility in what she was saying at the same time it is very difficult for me to agree that uncorroborated allegations of misconduct 36 years ago when someone was in high should be used to destroy this man’s reputation, career and his family.”
Faso said that “absent any contrary proof there should be no doubt about his confirmation.”
Faso said the Democrats have tried to turn the confirmation process into “basically a kind of modern version of the Salem witch trails.”
Faso said that Democrats had “sat on this and then leaked it to the press.”
Ford has said reporters, eventually, pushed her and others for information.
“That’s because the Democrats broke the condition of anonymity that she had placed on this and disclosed her identity to the press,’ Faso said “That is what happened here (and) that is the way they plan this game.”
Faso represents New York’s 19th Congressional District. The district comprises all of Ulster, Greene, Columbia, Sullivan, Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties; most of Dutchess County; parts of Rensselaer and Montgomery counties; and a small piece of Broome County.
