Bucci leads Saugerties to victory over Roosevelt

HYDE PARK, N.Y. >> Matt Bucci threw for 331 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 84 yards and another score to lead Saugerties High to a 48-14 victory over Roosevelt in Section 9, Class A football Friday night.

Bucci completed 17-of-25 passes. Sean Costello had another big game with seven receptions for 195 yards.

The Sawyers were up 28-14 at the half, but the defense shut out (0-5) Roosevelt in the second half to clinch the win.

Graeme Knisell ran eight times for 86 yards and two touchdowns and also threw a 60-yard TD pass. JP Monoghan and Jimmy Heinlein had touchdown catches.

Anthony Owen (seven tackles, one sack), Tom Stanley (seven tackles, two sacks, two tackles for losses), Justin Arastequet­i (sack, one forced fumble) and Jake Piratzky (intercepti­on) keyed the defense.

Rondout 28, Highland 14

At Highland, Austin Wells rushed for touchdowns of 1 and 15 yards and Matt Kelly had a 17-yard TD run and caught a 56-yard TD pass from Jimmy Brush to lead Rondout Valley in its Class B, Division I opener.

Wells finished with 196 yards on 34 carries.

Tyler Tomlin had a fumble recovery for the (3-2) Ganders.

Lucas Poremba’s intercepti­on with two minutes left clinched the win.

Brian Joyce had a touchdown pass to tight end Josh Hanna in the first half for (3-2) Highland. Both left the game with injuries. Julian Meltz took as the Huskies’ quarterbac­k and scored on a sneak.

Chris Hammond led the team with 61 yards rushing and a dozen tackles.

New Paltz 56, Monticello 0

At New Paltz, the (2-3) Huguenots ran away from (0-5) Monticello in a Class A, Division II game. The Hugies are now 2-1 in the division and the Monties fell to 0-3.

New Paltz had a combined 454 yards from four runners on just 27 carries. Quarterbac­k Ethan Smith led the way with 153 yards on nine rushes. Mike Pisciotta gained 105 on eight attempts, while Kenny Verney had 103 on six carries and Tyreese Turner ran for 93 on four tries.

Dan Drewnowski made 6-of-7 extra point kicks for the Hugies.

Pine Plains 41, Fallsburg 8

At Pine Plains, the Bombers improved to 4-0 in eightman football.

Andrew Holsopple from Rhinebeck scored on TD runs of 1, 14 and 30 yards and tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Caleb McCaul to lead the team.

Evan Proper ran for 115 yards and Kyle Stracher had 83, including a 23yard TD.

Proper had six tackles, Mike Mastroeni and Kiernan Reilly had five each and Paige Tegtmeier recovered a fumble for Pins Plains.
