Rep. Faso restates support for Kavanaugh
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> U.S. Rep. John Faso on Friday reiterated his support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after it became clear the judge would be confirmed by the Senate.
“With the completion of the additional FBI investigation and no proof to corroborate any of the allegations made against Judge Kavanaugh, I continue to support his confirmation based upon his qualifications, record and writings from the bench,” Faso, R Kinder hook, said in an prepared statement.
The statement was emailed to media outlets moments after Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, announced she would vote in favor of Kavanaugh, virtually assuring his confirmation.
Kavanaugh has been accused by three women of sexually inappropriate behavior in the 1980s ranging from exposing himself to attempted rape. An FBI investigation of the charges found no evidence to support them, according to senators who viewed the bureau’s report.
“Democratic leaders should be ashamed for the despicable manner in which they handled these allegations against Judge Kavanaugh and their blatant attempt to assassinate his character and derail a confirmation that they opposed from the day he was nominated instead of caring about the actual truth,” Faso wrote. “Their vile attacks represent a gross distortion of fundamental legal principles of due process and the presumption of innocence. I am happy that the Senate has agreed to move forward with his confirmation.”
Faso, who’s running for a second term next month, previously stated his support of Kavanaugh in a radio interview in late September, after the attempted rape allegation by Christine Blasey Ford become public.
The Kavanaugh confirmation vote is expected Saturday.
