Maritime Museum offers timber framing course

The Hudson River Maritime Museum will offer a class, “Intro to Square Rule Timber Framing,” Thursday, Oct. 25, through Saturday, Oct. 27.

The class will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Riverport Wooden Boat School, 86 East Strand. It is designed for students who want to get experience in building timber frame structures and is suitable for beginners and more advanced students.

Students will construct and join structural frames using mortise and tenon joints. An optional “barn” raising will be held Sunday, Oct. 28.

The fee is $325 for museum members at the household-level or above, and $375 for others. To register, visit www.hrmm.org. Tuition includes a copy of the book, “Learn to Timber Frame,” which details plans for small timber-framed structures likes cabins or sheds.

Faso, Delgado take questions by telephone

Republican U.S. Rep. John Faso of Kinderhook and his Democratic challenger, Antonio Delgado of Rhinebeck, will take questions from AARP members across New York’s 19th Congressio­nal District during separate telephone town halls.

Faso will field calls from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, while Delgado will take calls from 11:10 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12. AARP members who received an invitation will be allowed to ask questions during the events.

The associatio­n is urging voters 50 and older to question the candidates about such issues as the future of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, high prescripti­on drug prices and family caregiving.

Faso, who is serving his first term, is being challenged in the Nov. 6 election by Delgado, Green Party candidate Steve Greenfield and independen­t Diane Neal.
