After a closely contested first half, Rhinebeck pulled away with three goals in 15 minutes in the second to defeat Spackenkill 5-2 in a MidHudson Athletic League match Tuesday.

“The first half was a great battle, with Spackenkill goalie Maddie McCall making two or three amazing saves,” Rhinebeck Coach Matt Grande said.

The Hawks pulled away early in the second, with Libby Mensch connecting on a Libby Callahan assist to give Rhinebeck a 2-0 lead. Then within the span of 15 minutes, Elise Voorhis linked up with Caroline Voorhis to push the lead to 3-0, Ciarrah Gannon put an Esther Murray assist in between the posts to make it 4-0 and Elena Cody knocked in a header off a feed from Kaya Binnetti to round out Rhinebeck’s scoring attack.

The Spartans came to life in the last 15 minutes, with Kaitlyn Kilpert and Olivia Garbarino each scoring a goal.

“It’s so hard to contain Kaitlyn Kilpert, but we did a good job for most of the game,” Grande said.
