Roosevelt holds off Saugerties for MHAL win

Roosevelt High went five sets to turn back Saugerties 25-20, 2225, 25-20, 19-25 and 25-17 in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League volleyball contest Tuesday.

Aaliyah Williams (10 kills, four blocks), Shannon Martin Ignaffo (12 kills, six blocks, 30 digs ace), Gianna Felipe (23 points, six aces, 11 kills (48 digs), Elizabeth Miller (18 points, three aces, 10 kills and 58 digs led the (7-4, 6-4) Presidents. Varsity newcomer Sa’Mya Epps contributed 40 assists, 17 digs and three aces to Roosevelt’s effort.

Kelly Collins (nine kills, three aces, five blocks), Christie Collins (eight kills, three aces, two blocks, four digs) and Becky Odell (16 assists, kill) were tops for the Sawyers.

The loss knocked Saugerties out of the running for a sectional berth.

Wallkill 3, Highland 0

At Highland, The Panthers prevailed over the Huskies by scores of 2510, 25-3 and 25-10 to stay undefeated in division play.

Emma Secor (17 assists, two aces), Madison Dembroski (four kills, four digs, three assists, two aces) Aniya Goodman (six aces, four kills, two blocks), Angela Mayer (seven kills, block) and Rylee Thomas (seven kills, block) guided (10-2, 8-0) Wallkill.

Rondout 3, Red Hook 0

At Highland, Abby De Graw recorded 16 kills, eight digs and seven aces to lead the Ganders past the Raiders by scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-20.

Mackenzie Fischer contributed 11 kills, 15 kills and four aces, Lauren Parete added 30 assists and three kills and Gig Koch tacked on 28 digs to (5-5, 4-3) Rondout Valley’s effort.

Mackenzie Wade (three aces, two kills, 11 assists) and Maddie Boucher 11 kills, three blocks, one assist) led Red Hook.
