Referendum subject of forum Oct. 24
The League of Women Voters of the Mid-Hudson Region will host a forum to explain the Ulster County redistricting referendum on the November ballot at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at the College Terrace restaurant at SUNY New Paltz, 1 Hawk Drive.
Ulster County voters will be asked if Ulster County’s charter should be amended to allow for the creation of an independent redistricting commission.
Under the proposal, a new redistricting commission would be created every 10 years, following each census. No elected officials will be permitted to serve on the commission, and principles will be established regarding the method for creating districts.
Charter Revision Commission members will be on hand to explain the proposal to voters.
This forum is free and open to the public.
