Program looks at New Paltz in World War I
WHAT: Program, “New Paltz in the First World War” WHEN: Sunday, Nov. 4, at 4 p.m.
WHERE: Steinberg Community Room of Elting 93 Main St., New Paltz
DETAILS: Carol Johnson and Margaret Stanne of the Haviland-Heidgerd Historical Collection will give a presentation titled “New Paltz in the First World War.” World War I was probably called to the attention of New Paltz earlier than many places of its size due to the arrival in February 1917 of the 10th New York Infantry to guard the New York City aqueduct. Upon the breaking off of diplomatic relations with Germany, the unit was ordered to mobilize.

Ordinary elephant performs in Phoenicia
WHAT: Concert WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Empire State Railway Museum, 70 Lower High St., Phoenicia
DETAILS: Crystal and Pete Damore are Ordinary Elephant, a husband-andwife duo who have been performing together since 2011. They garnered praise with the release of their first album, “Dusty Words and Cardboard Boxes,” in 2013. Ordinary Elephant was named Artist of the Year for 2017 by the International Folk Music Awards. Admission is $17, $15 with a reservation.
