Joe Biden to stump for Delgado in Kingston
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Former Vice President Joe Biden will be in Kingston next week to stump for Democratic congressional candidate Antonio Delgado.
Biden will join Delgado at a get out the vote rally at 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 26 at the Senate Garage, 4 North Front St.
A limited number of tickets will be available to the general public on Monday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. The Ulster County Democratic Committee said that more information about admission will be available soon.
“We need people like Antonio in Congress,” said Biden in a press release announcing his appearance. “Antonio and I were both raised in working class families, not too far apart, and I know that he has what it takes to make a real difference for people in upstate New York. He has fresh ideas and the ability to find common ground.
“His commitment to serve the community is clear. I know he will fight for the rights of everyone in upstate New York and is exactly the kind of leader we need right now,” Biden said.
Delgado said he is “honored” to welcome Biden, who served as vice president under President Barrack Obama, to Upstate New York.
“Vice President Biden grew up just south of here, in Scranton, and understands the struggles and concerns of the working folks in our region. He knows what it takes to bring about real positive change, and to seek out bipartisan solutions,” Delgado said.
A Rhinebeck resident, Delgado is squaring off against first-term incumbent U.S. Rep. John Faso, R-Kinderhook for the 19th Congressional District seat.
Biden had previously endorsed Delgado in the congressional race.
The district comprises all of Ulster, Greene, Columbia, Sullivan, Delaware, Schoharie and Otsego counties; most of Dutchess County; parts of Rensselaer and Montgomery counties; and a small piece of Broome County.
