Eleanor Decker Sipperley, 96, of Red Hook

-

Eleanor Decker Sipperley, formerly of Red Hook, NY, died on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 at her home in Bradenton, Fla. after a brief illness.

Born on Nov. 14, 1921, in Rhinebeck, N.Y., the only child of Dewey and Helen (Wagert) Decker.

Eleanor was raised on the family farm located on Crestwood Road in Red Hook.

Eleanor worked for various companies in the area before she became the long-time co-owner of Budd and Sipperley Insurance in Red Hook. Eleanor married Madison P. Sipperley in 1948; he predeceased her in 2010.

After they moved from Red Hook in 1998, traveling became a passion for both Eleanor and Matt. Eleanor and Matt enjoyed their retirement first in Sarasota, Fla., and then in Bradenton, Fla., while summering in the mountains of Asheville, N.C., for many years.

Dogs shared a special place in Eleanor and Matt’s hearts, and their beloved dog-Penny shared their years in Red Hook, and briefly in Florida. As she grew older, Eleanor became a baseball fan of the local Tampa Bay Rays. She along with her nephew and niece-in-law, Bill and Christa Sipperley, would attend numerous games over the years.

Her brother-in-law, Arthur Sipperley of Red Hook, N.Y., his seven children and various cousins, survive Eleanor.

The Sipperley family would like to thank Sara Magley and her family, Eleanor’s longtime caregiver, for their tenderness, compassion and friendship when Eleanor was most vulnerable.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at Rock City Memorial Cemetery, Rhinebeck, N.Y. As requested by Eleanor, there will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook, N.Y.
