‘Jurassic Park’ roars into UPAC

-

The 1993 film “Jurassic Park,” an adventure 65 million years in the making, will be shown as part of Bardavon’s Friday Film Series at the Ulster Performing Arts Center, 601 Broadway, on Friday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

In this movie that launched the “Jurassic Park”

series, industrialist, bioengineer and billionaire Jon Hammond (played by Richard Attenborough) establishes a theme park called Jurassic Park that features cloned dinosaurs. Following an incident resulting in the death of a dinosaur handler, Hammond invites a select group of people to help calm the anxious investors to prove the park is safe and ready to be open to the public.

The group includes paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), paleo botanist Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), mathematician/theorist Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) and Jon’s own grandchildren, Lex Murphy (Ariana Richards) and Tim Murphy (Joseph Mazzello). All seems well until the park’s lead computer programmer, Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight), is bribed by one of Hammond’s rivals. Nedry thus deactivates the park’s security system — plunging the group into danger.
