Hyde Park man arrested after chase and crash
A Hyde Park man who led police on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into another vehicle in the village of Red Hook is facing multiple charges, police said Tuesday.
Christopher Marchant, 27, of Liberty Drive, was arrested Saturday by police in Red Hook after he fled from a traffic stop while being pulled over for a violation in the village of Rhinebeck, the Rhinebeck Police Department said.
Police said Marchant sped into the village of Red Hook, where he struck a vehicle on Firehouse Lane, and then fled on foot. He was caught after a brief foot chase, police said.
Rhinebeck police charged Marchant with the misdemeanors of resisting arrest, unlawfully fleeing a police vehicle, aggravated unlicensed driving and reckless driving, and the infractions of moving from a lane unsafely, speeding, making an improper or unsafe turn without a signal and failing to stop at a stop sign.
He also faces six additional charges in Red Hook, which will be issued at a Wednesday appearance in Rhinebeck Town Court, according to Rhinebeck Police Sgt. Peter Dunn.
Dunn said Marchant suffered a “slight arm injury” when his airbag deployed in the crash but that two other passengers in his vehicle were not injured. All three were wearing seat belts, the sergeant said.
The vehicle Marchant struck was being driven by Christopher Russo, 40, of Red Hook, Dunn said. He said Russo was not injured and there were no passengers in his vehicle.
Marchant was arraigned in Rhinebeck Town Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bail.
