Mid-Hudson business people ‘On the Move’
Owen Kelso, of New Paltz, N.Y., on Nov. 1 became assistant principal of New Paltz High School, from which he graduated in 1992.
Kelso returns to the New Paltz Central School District from the Poughkeepsie City School District, where he was an assistant principal at the high school. He previously worked for the New York State Office of Children and Family Services as a Regents Living Environment teacher as well as a special education English teacher. He also received training in dialectical behavioral therapy, which can help treat teenagers who struggle to manage their emotions.
Kelso’s experience also includes positions at Ulster BOCES, where he served as principal for the New Paltz/ Highland summer school, as well as the Rondout/Ellenville summer school.
He is a graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education as well as a master’s degree in special education. He also received a certificate of advanced studies in school leadership from SUNY New Paltz.
••• Ten Broeck Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility in Lake Katrine, has announced the most recent winners of its Shining Stars of Service Award, which recognizes employees who provide outstanding customer service to residents and family members. These employees are nominated through letters written by residents and their family members.
The winners are: Palemon Francisco Robles, Cheyenne McKevitt, and Regina Rivera, of Kingston; Darrene Zanolini, of Port Ewen; and Mitzi Bailey of Wallkill.
••• Dan Le Fever, of Shokan, has received the Outstanding Dealmaker Award of the New York State Commercial Association of Realtors.
Le Fever, a real estate broker with New Paltz, N.Y., based Mark Stryker Realty, received the award for accomplishing the most transactions with the highest gross dollars of any association member in the Hudson Valley region in 2018. The award is presented annually.
Le Fever earned his real estate license in 2006.
••• Dr. Sam Simon, cofounder of farm co-op Hudson Valley Fresh, has been presented the 2018 Dutchess Community College Falcon Award for Business Excellence.
The award recognizes those who excel in business leadership and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the Mid-Hudson Valley. The owner of Plankenhorn Farms in Pleasant Valley and a former orthopedic surgeon, Simon established Hudson Valley Fresh in 2005. The co-op of 10 local farmers produces dairy products sold at over 150 locations. The income associated with sales from Hudson Valley Fresh helps sustain member farms, which operate under government-regulated commodity prices that often fall below the cost of milk production.
