LAKE KATRINE >> Donald E. Quick, 89, former mayor of Kingston, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018.

Born in Kingston on Oct. 3, 1929, he was the son of the late Edwin and Elizabeth (Nugent) Quick.

Don was a 1947 graduate of Kingston High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1949 and the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was employed by IBM Kingston as a computer center manager for 30 years until he retired. Prior to moving to Lake Katrine, Don and Kaye lived on Roosevelt Avenue in Kingston and wintered in Fort Pierce, Fla. Don served as alderman for both the Second and Sixth Wards in the City of Kingston prior to becoming mayor in 1980. His administra­tion began the revitaliza­tion of Kingston’s Rondout waterfront. He served as commission­er for the City of Kingston Fire Department and as commander of Post 1386 VFW, and was a member of its Color Guard. He also served as district commander of the VFW and was the coowner of EDonna’s Hair Salon. He was a member of the Ulster County AOH and the Sons of Italy.

Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Kathleen A. “Kaye” (Weaver) Quick; a daughter, Donna Cecelia (Richard Terpening); a son, Edwin W. Quick (Kyle Brennan); a sister, Barbara Craig; sister-in-law, Patricia Weaver; grandchild­ren, Joseph Cecelia, Amy Cecelia, Richard Terpening, Austin London; and his great-grandchild­ren, Dominic Cecelia, Zoe, and Nia Scott. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Don’s sister, Joan Haines, and his brotherin-law, William Weaver, both died previously.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. A procession will form at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Wednesday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
