Betty Jo Chapman, 97, of Hurley
HURLEY >> Betty Jo Chapman, 97, of Hurley, formerly of Kingston and Florida, passed away Friday, Nov. 16, 2018, at Ten Broeck Commons Nursing Home in Lake Katrine.
Born Oct. 15, 1921, in Ralls, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Woody and Lillian (Yost) Wester.
Betty Jo was employed during World War II as a Civil Service accountant for the Naval Supply Depot in Oakland, Calif. She was a member of the Fair Street Reformed Church since 1978 and an associate member of the Community Church in Vero Beach, Fla. Her faith was an essential part of her life. She was very strong and brave.
She loved Florida and her many dear friends, and treasured her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Betty Jo and her great-granddaughters had many visits this past year and they were blessed to have known her.
Surviving are her son, Mark Chapman and his wife Joanne of Hurley; her grandchildren, Jesse and his wife Kiersten of Castleton on the Hudson, N.Y., Kalli Chapman Mitchell and her husband Nick of Jersey City, N.J., and their
two daughters Addison and Charley, Casey Chapman of Queens, N.Y.; and Betty Jo’s brother, Donald Hughes Wester.
Her son, Gary; her husband, Edward; sister, Martha Jean Tompkins; and brother, Robert K. Wester, all died previously.
Cremation arrangements are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home Inc., 27 Smith Ave., Kingston (www.jvleahyfh.com). In keeping with Betty Jo’s wishes, there will be no services.
