Vote on $28.7 million school propositio­n scheduled for Dec. 4

Residents on Tuesday, Dec. 4, will be asked to approve a $28.7 million propositio­n that would pay for renovation­s and repairs in the district’s three schools.

Voting will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the high school library at 28 Maple Ave.

Officials on the district website said the work is intended as a followup to a $14.4 million propositio­n that replaced the schools’ roofs and replaced the elementary school heating system.

“The board has now proposed ... to enhance health, safety, security in our buildings, support student programs, and address the highest priority infrastruc­ture updates that have been identified in the state-mandated Building Condition Survey,” they wrote.

Officials wrote that the state would reimburse the district for 55 percent of he cost, with the balance paid through 15-year bonds.

Work under the propositio­n would include:

• Upgrading the entrances to each school and the central office to include security vestibules.

• Replacing doors and windows in each of the buildings.

• Repairing and replacing exterior brick and entrances.

• Paving an emergency access road to the athletic fields.

• Repaving the district parking lots and elementary school playground.

• Repairing and replacing the food service entrance ramp and the middle school retaining wall.

• Repairing damaged sidewalks and stairways throughout the district.

• Expanding the elementary school cafeteria and serving lines.

• Repairing tile around elementary school classroom sinks.

• Expanding the high school television and radio studio and classroom.

• Upgrading the high school auditorium sound system, lighting system, seating and ceiling

• Replacing or repairing the athletic fields and press box.
