Henry Kappeller Jr., 72, of Red Hook, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018.

Born on June 22, 1946, in Bad Reichenhal­l, Germany, he was the son of the late Henry and Elizabeth (Bachmann) Kappeller Sr. Henry was a graduate of Hudson High School Class of 1964, and earned his degree in Electronic­s from Dutchess Community College.

Henry served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-1968, attaining the rank of Corporal. He served as a munition handler and ammo tech.

Henry married Kathleen Young on Nov. 22, 1969, and she survives at home in Red Hook.

Henry worked for a number of years as a machinist with Boice’s Gage in Hyde Park and retired from New York State, where he worked in general maintenanc­e at Hudson River Psychiatri­c Center in Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y.

In addition to his loving wife 49 years, Kathie Kappeller, he is survived by his children and grandchild­ren, Christophe­r (Nicole) Kappeller, and their children, Ryan, Riley, and Bianca, all of Rhinebeck, N.Y., Jennifer (David Udoff) Kappeller, and their child, Julia of Dover, Del., Scott (Patty) Kappeller, and their children, Sarah and Vanessa, all of Kinderhook, N.Y.; his sister, Elisabeth Charette of Clifton Park, N.Y.; along with extended family and friends.

A sister, Katarina “Katie” Kappeller, predecease­d him.

Memorial service and interment will be private.

Memorial donations may be made in Henry’s memory to the Dutchess County SPCA, 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, N.Y. 12538; to Columbia-Greene Humane Society, 125 Humane Society Road, Hudson, N.Y. 12534; or an animal shelter, rescue, or sanctuary of your choice.
