Saugerties dominates Newburgh

Saugerties High built a 29-12 lead at the half and never looked back as the Sawyers rolled over Newburgh Free Academy, 60-36, in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday.

Saugerties, which improved to 3-2, kept up the pace in the third putting up 20 points to go up 4924 and put the game out of reach.

Grace Van Roy had 25 points, eight rebounds and four steals; Jaclyn Muprhy had 10 points and six assists; Anna Van Roy contributed eight points and nine rebounds; and Erin Dudzic added six points and 10 assists to the lead the Sawyers.

Gabby Palladino scored nine points to carry the Goldbacks.

Spackenkill 49 Red Hook 33

At Poughkeepsie, strong defensive play lifted the Spartans in their season opener.

“I liked our defensive intensity from the start, communicating and helping on screens,” Spackenkill Coach Don Niese said. “We really did a fantastic job limiting them to one shot per possession.

“Red Hook is a strong, athletic team and well coached so we feel good coming away with a victory.”

Issy Herrera, scored 20 points and had four steals and there assists; Avery Rossman had 10 points and three steals; Simone Pelish added seven points and had five assists; Olivia Zykoff contributed six points and 19 rebounds and Maddie McCall tacked on six points and seven rebounds to guide Spackenkill.

Erin Hare and Kristine Miller each put up six points for the (1-2) Raiders.

Tri-Valley 39, Ellenville 28

At Ellenville, Samantha Raymond and Victoria Swett scored 10 points each to lead the Bears.

Soph Santiago scored 12 points and added three steals, while Naiya Brisco scored eight points for the Devils.

New Paltz 47, Washingtonville 40

At New Paltz, the Huguenots rallied in the fourth quarter to defeat Washingtonville 47-40 in a nonleague game Monday.

Hailey Osborne had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Huguenots.

New Paltz trailed 35-30 after three quarters, but outscored the Wizards 17-5 in the fourth.
