Snow, sleet, freezing rain coming our way
The wintry mix is expected to impact the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills today and part of Wednesday.
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> A winter storm could drop as much as 9 inches of snow and sleet on the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskills between Tuesday morning and midday Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service has issued a “winter storm warning” for the region for period of 10 a.m. Tuesday to noon Wednesday.
Snowfall is expected to start after 11 a.m. Tuesday and could be heavy at times, according to the weather service. The forecast accumulation is 3 to 7 inches.
Tuesday evening, a mix of snow and sleet is predicted until 7 p.m., followed by a mix of sleet and freezing rain through 4 a.m. Wednesday. Snow and sleet could accumulate 1 to 2 inches, and ice accumulations could total one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch.
A wintry mix is expected to persist through about 10 a.m. Wednesday, after which the precipitation is forecast to change to rain. There could be an additional half-inch of snow and sleet accumulation.
The temperature is expected to climb into the low 40s on Wednesday, but winds could gust as high as 25 mph.
Temperatures are forecast to stay is the low- to mid-40s Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
In Kingston, a “snow emergency” will take effect at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and parking restrictions will take effect at 9 a.m.
Because Tuesday is an even-numbered day, onstreet parking will be restricted to the side of the street with even-numbered addresses (even if parking typically is banned on that side). Violators can be ticketed or towed.
Vehicles also can be parked in municipal lots.
The parking restrictions will remain in effect until further notice. If they remain in effect past Tuesday, vehicles must be moved to the appropriate side of the street by 7 a.m. each day.
