ULSTER LANDING >> James E. Ploss of Ulster Landing Road died at HealthAlli­ance Hospital, Broadway campus, on Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, just short of his 80th birthday.

Born in Ashokan, N.Y., Feb. 13, 1939; a son of the late Lemuel and Ina (Every) Ploss. Mr. Ploss served his country in The U.S. Air Force prior to The Vietnam War. He was employed as a local heavy equipment hauler with CB handle “Big Iron.” A member of Teamsters Local 445.

An avid sportsman, and fisherman, he played City softball, darts, and was a loyal New York Mets Fan. He will be remembered by The Kingston Catholic community as Santa during The annual holiday pancake breakfast.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Margarette M. “Meg” (Trudeau) Ploss; his children, Debra Ann Volpe, Ina Noble and her husband Wayne, Wayne Ploss, Jan Miller and her husband Michael, James E. Ploss and his wife Cynthia, Jason A. Ploss and his wife Caryn; siblings, Elizabeth Morgan, Latus Reide, Leona Ryan, Lemuel Ploss; and grandchild­ren, Marlana, Cresandra, Joshua, Patrick, Jessica, Jennifer, Christene, Michael, Jasmine, Colin, Carlie, and Janina. Ten great-grandchild­ren, several nieces and nephews, and in-laws, also survive.

His son-in-law, Dan Volpe; and siblings, Clarissa Reid, Charlotte Brown, John Wayne (Jack) Ploss, and Richard Ploss, died previously.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the guidance of Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc., 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston, N.Y. www. jvleahyfh.com Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday 4 to 7 p.m. A service will be held Saturday at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Montrepose Cemetery.
