Michael S. Peter, 61, of Schoolhous­e Road, joined his Dad in heaven on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019.

Born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1957, in Kingston, he was the son of Blanche Sparling Peter and the late Carl Peter. When he was a little boy, he loved life and always lived each day to the fullest. He loved cooking, even as a little boy, and continued on until he landed the “Sous Chef” position at the Boston Harbor Hotel. After the early death of his Dad, he came home to cook at various restaurant­s.

He left for Florida and continued on to various prestigiou­s restaurant­s. He always ended up running the kitchen. At D’Jous, he oversaw 14 cooks and two sous chefs.

At Holmes Medical Center, he was the chef and supervisor. A spokesman for Holmes Medical Center said, “Michael enjoys cooking, and he treats it as an art, as he creates magic where he cooks.” He cooked at Frederico’s, Stone Pony and the Legal Swine.

Besides his mother, of Saugerties, survivors include his sisters, Dori (Stephen) Hopf of Saugerties and Kathy Peter and her companion, Terry Breintenst­ein; brothers, John of Saugerties, Carl of the Bronx, and Sean (Bambi) Peter of Melbourne, Fla.; nieces, Alycia, Darien, Skylar, and Abby; and nephew, Dylan, all of whom he adored and spoiled.

His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home Inc., corner of John and Lafayette streets, Saugerties. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
