Work to demolish a portion of the former Macy’s store, separating it from the Hudson Valley Mall, has been completed and the new Hudson River Health Care office is expected to open in the remaining renovated space early this fall, according to a spokeswomen for Health Quest Medical Practices.

“The construction is being completed by areas,” Sarah Colomello,

Health Quest’s manager of public and community affairs, said in an email last week.

Colomello said work on the first of four areas in the former department store is nearly complete and finishing touches are being made. That area will house the Hudson River Health Care primary care office, she said.

Colomello said the second and third areas are being framed and sheetrock is going up, among other work. She said one of those areas will house radiology services, a laboratory for blood work and a walk-in urgent care center. The final area will house physical therapy, neurology, and other healthcare specialties and services, she said.

“Hudson River Health Care’s primary care office should be open in early fall pending building inspections and final approvals,” Colomello said. “This is also where the family medicine residents at Health Quest will work.”

Colomello said the goal is for radiology, the laboratory, and Health Quest’s urgent care center

to be open in the fall and for the additional services to open by, or in, early 2020.

A demolition permit issued for the project called for 32,696 square feet of the former Macy’s building to be demolished, separating the building from the Hudson Valley Mall.

Colomello said Health Quest wanted to be a standalone medical building and stay with a familiar design, similar to its facility in the town of Lloyd. At the same time, she said, Health Quest wanted to be part of the mall complex, offering patient benefits such as easy access, parking, and nearby retail shopping.

A building permit to renovate 88,100 square feet, which expires on Feb. 4, 2021, was issued to Hull Property Group subsidiary Kingston Mall LLC, and estimates renovations will cost $17 million. The Hull Property Group owns the mall.

Health Quest previously indicated there will be 40 providers in the new medical facility, employing 120 to 150 people.

Health Quest is expected to maintain its Kingston Plaza offices for OB-GYN and general practice primary care.
